2007 Carneros Napa Valley Chardonnay
|
Very pale gold in color, this Burgundian-style chardonnay is the ideal balance of French restraint with California sunshine. The nose is delicate and steely, with notes of wet stone, honeysuckle, apricot, and almond. Ripe pear flavors come through in the aroma and on the palate, which is light and fresh with a creamy center of marzipan and a nutmeg, lemon flower finish.
These Chardonnay grapes come from the renowned Carneros District in Napa Valley. We buy fruit from the Beckstoffer vineyards, the Haire vineyards and Ghisletta Vineyard. Grapes were harvested between September 14 and 26 with an average Brix of 24.5.

| Harvest Notes: | Ah, to have been a sun-loving grape vine during the 2007 growing season. Very little rain fell at the beginning of the year and skies were mostly sunny and the weather balmy from early spring into summer. A couple heat spikes in March and June were typical, but the weather was surprisingly moderate. All of the white varieties were brought in botrytis-free because of the lack of moisture in the air. This lack of extreme weather also allowed harvest to begin sooner and to move at a reasonable and controlled clip. Crop size in Chardonnay was light, and not surprisingly, the wines are delicate and complex, with just enough richness to remind us where they were grown. |

This is a very food friendly wine and will go well with most dishes, from appetizers to soups to main courses. Try it with a just picked spring lettuce and fresh herb salad, or with a mature, delicate brie cheese. This wine will get richer and evolve for at least five years. |
