2011 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
    Wine Details
2011 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

2011 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Dark red/black in color, the nose gives an immediate aroma of raspberries and warm baking spices, leading into cassis and clove. The palate has elements of pie crust, with smooth, silky tannins and well balanced acidity.

Available Nationally and at the Winery

The grapes used to produce this wine are from the best growers in the best appellations in Napa Valley: our own estate and Tonella vineyards, both in Rutherford; Stagecoach in the Atlas Peak AVA; Morisoli in Rutherford; Lamoreaux in the Oak Knoll District; Henry Brothers on Howell Mountain; Healy Vineyard in St. Helena; Beckstoffer Georges III in Rutherford; and Christian in the Coombsville AVA.
Each site was harvested at its ideal brix, ranging between 21.8 and 27, and picked over the course of three weeks, from October 12 –November 2. The fruit was hand sorted before undergoing a 1-2 day cold soak. The lots were individually fermented in small batches, with gentle pumpovers 2-3 times per day. The wine underwent malolactic fermentation in barrel, where it was aged for 20 months before being racked and bottled in June 2013. The wine rested in our underground cellar until its release in March 2014.

2011 was a challenging vintage for Napa Valley, but it was no different than a typical Rhône vintage, as a late and wet spring crawled into a cool summer. We finally got the heat we had been waiting for, only to play chicken with the rain in October. This was a vintage when it paid to know your producer, because only when the tide goes out do you see who is swimming naked. We are very lucky to work with some amazing, expert growers who did what it took to get fabulous quality in 2011. So while quantity overall was low, the fruit made for well-balanced wines with good intensity, structure and texture with a brightness of flavor.
