2008 Lamoreaux Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

2008 Lamoreaux Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

Deep dark red in color, with aromas that at first are delicate floral, pencil lead, and anise. As the nose develops, aromas of cola and dark chocolate with hints of black pepper are revealed. This complex wine has a beautifully balanced palate with rich, silky tannins and never-ending flavors of cigar box, dark chocolate, vanilla, and smoky dark coffee.

Winery Exclusive

These grapes are grown in what Sequoia Grove casually refers to as the Oak Knoll bench. The vineyard is tucked into the western hills on one of the first estates in Napa Valley, and between its ancient oak trees and grazing cattle grow these beautifully cared-for vines. The grapes were hand harvested on October 17 at 27.3 Brix, then cluster sorted before a two-day cold soak and a small-batch fermentation using French yeast. The juice was gently pumped over 2-3 times per day during the primary fermentation. In barrel, the wine underwent malolactic fermentation and aged 22 months before being racked twice and bottled August 2010. The wine rested in our underground cellar until its release March 2012.

2008 was a challenging and low-yielding—yet high-quality—vintage in Napa Valley. Heavy rains started the year, followed by one of the driest springs on record and the longest frost period in decades. After the fruit set, fewer clusters with smaller berries appeared to be the norm, which allowed the vines to focus on fruit production. Fortunately, the summer season offered cooler, consistent temperatures, until a heat spell over the Labor Day holiday ratcheting everyone into high gear. Then, just as quickly, the temperatures dropped returning to seasonally normal warm days and cool nights. This gave the red varieties an optimal hang time, excellent ripening and balanced structure. We are very fortunate to work with some of the most knowledgeable growers in the best locations, and thanks to their expert skills, they delivered us beautifully ripe fruit that resulted in rich wines.

This wine would pair best with simply prepared, high-quality roasted meats and fresh, seasonal vegetables to let the wine shine fully. Cellar for 5 to 15 years upon release.

Sleek, supple and deceptively complex, with pure dark berry, touches of loamy earth and dried herb. Lifts off on the finish, showing a dash of creamy oak. Drink now through 2023. 418 cases made.
Wine Enthusiast
If youâ??re looking for sheer flash in Napa Valley Cabernet, try this one. Itâ??s expensive, but worth the price. It dazzles for soft lusciousness, and the depth and complexity of blackberries, black currants, cassis and chocolat
